AR Rahman about Nepotism
Music composer AR Rahman discussed nepotism, revealing that he encourages his three children, Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen, to excel in their own careers.
He expressed his worry that if his children don’t continue his legacy, his efforts will lose meaning. Rahman stated, “Nowadays, people talk a lot about nepotism. I’ve created all of this, my entire world. If my kids don’t embrace it, everything I’ve built will go to waste! I’ve put so much passion and care into every aspect of my studio, from the smallest detail to the largest space, and I hope they’ll eventually take over”
AR Rahman emphasized the significance of passing down his legacy to his children, stating, “I was very clear about one thing: whatever money I leave behind, it’ll vanish in a day if they aren’t wise enough and don’t understand the heritage. Despite enduring financial difficulties with my mom and sisters, those lessons, the challenges we faced together, have shaped me into who I am today.”
Rahman said, “Even today, those experiences assist me in making practical choices. Therefore, I genuinely wish for my children to stay informed about current events; I don’t support keeping any negative information or issues hidden from them. I even let them know if I take a loan for a building and the monthly mortgage I’m repaying. I do this not to trouble them, but solely to help them learn.”
Khatija Rahman, the daughter of AR Rahman, has demonstrated her singing talent through popular songs like ‘Chinnanjiru (Marumurai)’ in the Tamil edition of ‘Ponniyin Selvan II’, ‘Minnanchula Vennelaa (Reprise)’ in the Telugu edition, and ‘Mera Aasmaan Jal Gaya (Reprise)’ in the Hindi edition. Last year, she got married to Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed.
AR Rahman’s son, AR Ameen, has also left his mark in the music world with tracks like ‘Never Say Goodbye’ from the movie Dil Bechara, among others. His most recent song, ‘Veerane,’ was featured in the Tamil film ‘Maamannan’.
