Apoorva Lakhia says producers refused to work with him after this | Deets Inside

Shootout at Lokhandwala was a revolutionary film. The film featured a star-studded cast with the likes of Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, and Tusshar Kapoor playing pivotal roles in the movie. The director of the movie, Apoorva Lakhia has recently revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes story.

One of the main leads, Vivek Oberoi delivered a spectacular performance as Mayabhai. However, his casting in the movie caused problems for Lakhia. Many producers refused to work with him after he cast Oberoi in the film. But since he had already made a commitment to Vivek, Lakhia couldn’t back out of it. Though the industry didn’t support him, Apoorva was backed by Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, and Sanjay Gupta.

“And Sanju sir supported me, Suniel Shetty supported me, Sanjay Gupta supported me. So if there guys are supporting me, I thought why should I think about the future? If Shootout became a hit, whoever rejected me will come back.” he added. Regardless of the backlash Lakhia received, the movie went on to become a hit and received many accolades.

While talking about Vivek, the director shared, “But Vivek was a good actor. Whatever he did was wrong, he shouldn’t have done it, but that does not mean he is not talented. I am hiring for his acting abilities. I am not hiring any person for his personality. He is a professional and he was really good when I was reading with him. I think he did a fantastic job.”

Vivek Oberoi made headlines in the 2000s for his tiff with Salman Khan. According to reports, this tiff caused him to be boycotted unofficially from Bollywood with many producers and directors refusing to work with him. The actor, in a press conference  2003, revealed that Salman Khan had called him multiple times and threatened him. It was this press conference that allegedly had a negative impact on Vivek’s career.
