Kamal Hassan’s vigilant action film Indian 1996 was written and directed by ace filmmaker Shankar. The music for this movie was composed by A.R Rahman. This movie was a major commercial success at the box office. It became the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and also the first film from Tamil and South India to gross 50 crores at the worldwide box office.
The sequel Indian 2 was announced in September 2017, and in February 2020 the shooting was halted due to an accident on the sets. On 19 February 2020, during the shooting of the film, a crane carrying a heavy flashlight fell on the sets resulting in the death of an assistant director and two crew members, and 10 more were injured. Kamal Hassan, Shankar, and Kajal Agarwal had a narrow escape.
After the accident following the pandemic, the shooting of Indian 2 took a break. The latest buzz is that the shooting of Indian 2 is going to start from January 22, 2023, with the team planning to wrap up the shoot by the end of April this year.
