8 Years Of Rajini’s Chandramukhi; A Film Superstar Fans Can Never Forget

While everyone thought Super Star Rajinikanth’s career was going in a down way with Baba becoming a disaster, there came the film Chandramukhi, which was released 15 years ago on April 14. The film was a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhum, which was remade in many languages including Hindi as Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

The storyline of the film whirls around an NRI and his wife, who decides to stay in an ancestral home. The wife suffers from dissociative identity disorder and a psychiatrist tries to solve the mystery while risking his life.

With excellent performances by Rajini and Jyothika, the film mesmerized the audience. With a theatrical run of 890 days, Chandramukhi became the longest-running film not just in Kollywood but in the entire South Indian film industry when it was released in 2005. It was also the first Tamil movie to be dubbed in German and grossed some 90 crores as its lifetime collection.

Critically acclaimed for his performance as well as commercially successful with its entertainment factor, Rajinikanth undoubtedly shone through in the film which remains one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time.
