Dadasaheb Phalke Awards
The prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards took place in Mumbai on Tuesday, February 20, and were a star-studded event that celebrated cinematic excellence. Stardust fluttered through the award ceremony. Among the many actors spotted were Aditya Roy Kapur, Shahid Kapoor, Nayanthara, Vikrant Massey, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, and Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara were the evening’s bright spots with their victories for Best Actor and Best Actress. When Jawan debuted in theatres last September, it took over ₹1000 crore at the global box office. Under the direction of Atlee, the movie featured extended cameos from Deepika Padukone, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, and Sanjay Dutt.
Rani Mukerji took home the Best Actress award (Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway) for her outstanding performance as her mother. Indian woman Debika Chatterjee, who lives in Norway with her family, battles to get custody of her kids after the government takes them away.
For Sam Bahadur, Vicky Kushal was named Best Actor (Critics). In this remarkable film, Sam Manekshaw plays one of the most decorated officers in the Indian army, having fought in five wars and served for more than forty years. His promotion to field marshal made him the first army officer to hold that rank.
For his remarkable portrayal of the character Abrar in Animal movie, Bobby Deol secured the award for the best actor in a negative role.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, on the other hand, was named Best Director for his fantastic movie Animal, which starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. One of the biggest blockbusters 2023 was Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. But its portrayal of misogyny also drew criticism. Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Ranbir Kapoor played critical roles in the film.
Anirudh Ravichander won the Best Music Director Award for the movie Jawan. In contrast, the Best Playback Singer (Male) award goes to Varun Jain for the popular song that ruled the playlist for a while, Tere Vaste from the film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, and for Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry, KJ Yesudas won the award.
