Pathaan is set to hit Putin’s Land.

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham and produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, is the highest-grossing Indian movie of the year with worldwide revenues that are close to Rs 1050 crores at the global box office.
The movie set numerous first- and full-run records on its route to becoming the highest-grossing Hindi-language film in India and the world. After a strong opening weekend, the movie is still causing waves around the world as it is released in stages in nations where it did not receive a full release. The movie is getting ready for a broad release in Russia and the CIS next month after first enjoying a successful run in Bangladesh last month.

In Russia and the CIS  Pathaan is receiving the broadest release of an Indian film ever. On July 13, more than 3000 screens in these areas will show the dub version. This is significant news because not many Indian films have had their Russian releases, let alone ones with local dubs or wide distribution.

However, with the fall of the Soviet Union, the market has shrunk and is no longer a traditional market for Indian films, despite the fact that they have historically performed at record levels. The success of Pathaan in Russia is crucial because it may pave the path for further Indian films to be released there in the future. Although it’s impossible to say for sure, Pathaan’s accessibility on the internet may hurt sales.
