Oppenhieimer’s cast walked out of the UK Premiere; why?

Here is why Oppenhieimer’s cast walked out of the UK Premiere:

Oppenhieimer‘s cast and crew consist of some of the most decorated actors, all of which appeared for the UK premiere dressed sharp and looking as glorious as ever. The shocker, though, was when they all left the premier early. Why, you ask? For only the noblest of reasons, that is to support the Sag-aftra’s upcoming strike.

Lead actors, including Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Ramy Malek, walked out in solidarity to join the stand for fair wages and improved working conditions for actors and crew members.

Christopher Nolan held down the fort at the premiere and stated, “Unfortunately, they’re off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by Sag, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of the unions, and we support them.”

The actors did take time to walk the carpet and interact with fans and reports before their embarked on their strike. Emily Blunt wore a beautifully intricate black shimmery gown with interesting cut-outs and fringe. Florence Pugh, on the other hand, brought the color in an orange gown with a plunging neckline, cut-outs and a massive train, standing out from the rest of the cast, who wore black or grey suits.

What is the SAG-AFTRA strike ?

It is a major strike and protest being done in Hollywood, something that has not been seen in over six decades that deals with the failed contract negotiations with major companies such as Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and Warner Bros. Many screenwriters have been protesting since the may of this year after which SAG-AFTRA, including its 160,000 TV and film personally, made the decision to initiate a strike at midnight on Thursday.

The demands of those protesting include increased wages, higher streaming residuals, and improved working conditions. They also want to protect actors from being usurped by digital replicas. The union is seeking guarantees that artificial intelligence (AI) and computer-generated faces and voices will not be used to replace actors. While the strike lasts, actors cannot appear in films or even promote movies that they have already made, which is why the cast of Oppenheimer did what they did and walked out of the premiere.

This is truly a moment in history, and with the stellar cast of Oppenheimer walking out of the premiere to join forces with the rest. it shows great heart and courage. This is the need of the hour with the entertainment industry in shambles. This type of support and solidarity for such big actors goes a long way.
