Of all reasons for abuse, Amber’s reason is her dog. Don’t get us wrong, dogs are amazing! But most humans aren’t, sadly. Jokes apart, abuse is a serious problem and needs to be spoken against of in any given relationship. Let’s say it out loud – abuse is not just physical. Derogation, offensive words, disrespect, humiliation, subtle insulting comments, they all come under verbal abuse which is still abuse, whether or not anybody agrees with it. Amber Heard and Johnny Depp got married in 2015 and soon after, Amber’s physical abuse started surfacing. One such incident came to light as graphic images of Johnny’s bloodied finger surfaced. Depp said that it got severed because Amber had thrown a vodka bottle at him in 2015. However, Amber denied Depp’s claims and instead alleged that her ex-husband had assaulted her that night. According to Amber, she only hit Depp as an act of defending herself.
Instead of Depp filing for a divorce, Amber Heard did, pushing charges of violence on him in 2016, appealing for a temporary restraining order against him. Little did she know, her scandalous lies were going to leave her embarrassed in front of the whole world. Karma took a boomerang and she ended up getting sued for defaming Johnny. He filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber in March 2019 after her Washington Post op-ed, where she wrote about being a victim of domestic violence. Their trial’s jury in June of 2022 awarded Johnny $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which were later reduced to $350,000.
Finally, Johnny Depp is donating the settlement money to charity. The actor will reportedly distribute portions of the $1 million settlement from Amber to five different charities, with $200,000 going to each charity.
