Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a veiled swipe at Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, linking the state’s “RR tax” to the blockbuster film “RRR.” The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, has garnered global acclaim and even won accolades at prestigious events like the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
PM Modi Criticizes ‘RRR’ Tax:
Modi’s remarks centred around the alleged misuse of funds collected through the “RR tax.” He stated that while the Telugu film industry had brought India’s name to the forefront worldwide with films like “RRR,” the state’s RR tax brought shame to the country. Industrialists and contractors in Telangana are reportedly required to pay a certain percentage of this tax, and a significant portion of the collection allegedly ends up in Delhi.
The Prime Minister didn’t stop there. He also reiterated his claim that the Congress party would introduce an ‘inheritance tax’ if they came to power, a move that could potentially redirect a significant portion of an individual’s lifetime earnings away from their children and toward the party’s vote bank supporters. He further accused the Congress and the BRS of corruption, emphasizing that they were two sides of the same coin.
Modi’s comments shed light on the complex interplay of politics, cinema, and taxation. While “RRR” continues to make waves globally, the debate over the ‘RR tax’ remains a contentious issue in Telangana. As the public questions the origins and destination of this tax, the film’s success and political maneuvering continue to intertwine in the state’s narrative, adding a layer of intrigue to the ongoing saga.
