“Family Star”: A Struggle for Stardom or a Flop Show?

“Family Star”: A Struggle for Stardom or a Flop Show? Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur’s latest offering, “Family Star,” has hit the screens with much anticipation. But does it shine as bright as its title suggests, or does it fizzle out like a damp firecracker? Let’s delve into the world of this family drama and explore its highs and lows.

The Plot: A Wafer-Thin Affair

“Family Star” introduces us to Govardhan Rao (played by Vijay Deverakonda), a responsible young man burdened with familial duties. Despite having older brothers and a grandmother, Govardhan takes it upon himself to steer the family ship. His life takes an unexpected turn when Indu (Mrunal Thakur) rents a portion of his home. Sounds intriguing, right? Unfortunately, that’s where the intrigue ends.

The plot of “Family Star” is so wafer-thin that you can see through it like one of the CGI dosas Govardhan makes for his nieces and nephews. Director Parasuram Petla’s attempt at storytelling defies logic, leaving the audience scratching their heads. The film feels like it was written by someone who has never experienced middle-class life, resulting in caricaturish portrayals.

Lack of Emotional Depth

The biggest drawback of “Family Star” lies in its lack of emotional depth. Everything feels superficial. We don’t connect with the lead characters, let alone the supporting ones. Govardhan, supposedly responsible, often behaves like an inner man-child, and we’re left wondering why those around him tolerate it. Indu’s hidden secrets are revealed in a way that borders on plain silliness. The friction between Govardhan and his brother adds little substance to the narrative.

Chemistry That Fizzles

While the film revolves around Govardhan’s pursuit of a better life for his family, it also hinges on his love for Indu. However, Vijay and Mrunal hardly share any chemistry on screen. Parasuram fails to give them space to breathe or flourish. Instead, he prioritizes forced humor over genuine emotional connections.

A Missed Opportunity

When Vijay Deverakonda and Parasuram teamed up for the second time after “Geetha Govindam,” expectations were high. Unfortunately, “Family Star” fails to capture the magic of their previous collaboration. It lacks the heart and soul that made “Geetha Govindam” endearing. Instead, it feels like a pale imitation, borrowing elements without understanding their essence.

Verdict: Flop or Near Miss?

“Family Star” struggles to make a mark or entertain. It’s a missed opportunity to create something memorable. While the interval banger and emotional moments salvage it to some extent, the overall experience leaves much to be desired. If you’re a die-hard Vijay Deverakonda fan, you might find moments to cheer for, but for others, it’s a forgettable flick.

In the grand constellation of cinema, “Family Star” might not shine as brightly as hoped. Perhaps it’s time to look beyond the stars and find substance in storytelling that resonates with our hearts
