Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, ventured by Warner Bros has slated to dominate the global box office with an anticipated debut of approximately $135M. The film is poised to conquer 63 foreign markets along with a staggering 3,850 theaters across the United States.

The buzz surrounding the fusion film is palpable, evident in the robust advance bookings. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has already sold over 40,000 tickets in top national chains for its opening day, signaling a promising start even before its official release.

In India, the film is poised to emerge as the preferred movie option for the weekend, with advance bookings indicating a strong opening. The Good Friday holiday boost is expected to propel the film to a nett start of around Rs 10-11 crores, with the potential for collections to surpass Rs 11 crores.

The studio’s decision to release the latest installment in the Legendary IP during Easter 2021 proved to be a stroke of luck, as Godzilla vs. Kong successfully enticed audiences back to theaters after a year of Covid quarantine. Given this success, Warner Bros chose to adhere to the same release frame forthe film.

Godzilla vs. Kong made a commendable $48M in its stateside five-day launch, debuting simultaneously on HBO Max. If the domestic figures for The New Empire hold steady, it will mark the third-largest opening in the Monsterverse, following 2014’s Godzilla ($93.1M) and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island ($61M).

Preview screenings in the U.S. and Canada are set to commence on Thursday at 3 p.m., with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire offering various premium ticket options, including Imax, PLF, 4DX, ScreenX, and DBox, among others. Meanwhile, Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two will continue to command Imax screens during the holiday weekend.

With a net cost of $135M before prints and advertising expenses, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire received 75% funding from Legendary, with Warner Bros covering the remaining 25%.

Directed by filmmaker Adam Wingard, the highly anticipated sequel kicks off its overseas rollout on Wednesday, premiering in key markets such as Spain and Korea before expanding to Italy, Australia, and Latin America on Thursday. Friday will see the film’s release in the UK and China.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be out in theatres starting today. The film’s tickets can be booked in advance, from the ticket counters or from online ticketing applications.
