Bollywood’s Tryst with Treasures: A Glimpse into the Opulent World of Cinema Jewellery”

From the Grandeur of ‘Devdas’ to the Splendor of ‘Heeramandi’: The Dazzling Journey of Jewellery in Bollywood Epics”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is set to continue his legacy of cinematic luxury, featuring over 300 kg of exquisite jewellery. The series promises to be a visual feast, with over 10,000 pieces adorning stars like Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha.

Tracing back to Bhansali’s Devdas (2002), the film was not just a milestone for its cost but also for its lavish use of kundan and garnet jewellery, enhancing the allure of characters portrayed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit.

In 2008, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar raised the bar with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s portrayal of Rajkumari Jodhaa Bai, adorned with gold ornaments valued at ₹200 crores and guarded by 50 security personnel for her safety.

Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (2015) showcased Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in antique 24-carat gold jewellery, intricately designed over a year with kundan, rubies, and polki diamonds, reflecting the film’s historical authenticity.

Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of Rani Padmavati in Bhansali’s eponymous film saw her in a regal avatar, donning 20 kg of gold jewellery, part of a collection crafted from 400 kg of molten gold, epitomizing the film’s grandeur.

Lastly, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali series redefined onscreen royalty with Anushka Shetty as Devasena, a warrior princess draped in gold, from nose rings to layered necklaces, setting a new standard for cinematic opulence.

As Bhansali gears up to unveil Heeramandi, the anticipation builds for another chapter in Bollywood’s love affair with magnificent jewellery, promising to leave audiences in awe once again.
