Kamya Panjabi, one of the renowned faces of television, bagged the lead role in the new Colours TV show Neerja Ek Nayi Pehchaan. Kamya Panjabi plays the role of Neerja in the serial. After Shakthi, this is her second project with Colours TV.
Reports suggest that Kamya’s role in Neerja Ek Nayi Pehchaan is similar to her character in Shakthi. During an interview, she opens up about her life and expresses why she chose the project. She stated,” The expectations of the channel are my driving force.” Upon being asked, You being a single mother was the familiarity something that got you to sign the project?
Kamya stated, ” No, I don’t get into that, me being a single mother for 10-12 years, that is my life, the shows that I do have nothing to do with my personal life. I don’t find the need to play the victim card, the story and my performance are what matters to me, as an artist we can play any character, playing a pitiful character or a sassy one as an artist. The story is based on the life and struggles of women based on Sonagachi, it’s only a fictional take on the story based on Sonagachi and its people and not about just a mother and daughter relationship.”
In order to improve her performance and add life to the character Neerja, Kamya happens to have met and interacted with people of Sonagachi.
