PM Modi and these Tollywood actors send their condolences following Vijayakanth’s demise

Vijayakanth was an Indian politician and actor who worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was nicknamed “Captain” among the film fraternity. He was the founder and president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) political party and twice as an MLA representing the constituency of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam respectively.

Vijayakanth died due to pneumonia at a hospital in Chennai on 28 December 2023, at the age of 71, around 06:10 in the morning. He was on ventilator support after testing positive for COVID-19.

Following his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many prominent Tollywood actors took to their social media handles to send their condolences.

PM Modi wrote, “Extremely saddened by the passing away of Thiru Vijayakanth Ji. A legend of the Tamil film world, his charismatic performances captured the hearts of millions. As a political leader, he was deeply committed to public service, leaving a lasting impact on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.”

Tollywood star megastar Chiranjeevi expressed his condolences by saying, “Heartbroken to know that our ‘Puratchi Kalingar’, ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth is no more. He was a wonderful human being, a Hero of the Masses, a multi-faceted personality, and an astute politician. Though he never acted in straight Telugu films, he is hugely popular and loved by the Telugu Audiences too.”

Jr NTR wrote, “Saddened to learn about Vijayakanth Garu’s passing. A true powerhouse in both cinema and politics. May his soul find eternal peace. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Actor Ravi Teja wrote on his social media account, “Disheartening to know about the demise of Vijayakanth Garu. May his family find solace in the memories of his impactful life”.
