Late actor Matthew Perry once made a big decision to change the scene from the iconic show Friends that saved the most loved character ‘Chandler’ from losing its charm.
In one episode of Friends from Season 5 called ‘The One in Vegas: Part One’, after the fight between the characters Monica and Chandler, Monica goes on lunch with her ex-boyfriend, Dr. Richard Bruke, in the original script, whereas Chandler talks with a hotel worker played by Lisa Cash and ends up cheating Monica. But as they were about to film it in front of a live audience, Matthew talked to the showwriters.
He told the writers that the audience would not like it if Chandler cheated on Monica, and then they changed the storyline. Recently, Lisa Cash shared with the media on November 6 that “We had rehearsed it and everything, and then the day before we were shooting in front of a live audience, I was told that [Matthew] went to the writers and said the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica.” She added, “He was probably right. That would’ve changed possibly the course of the show and his character.” She said she had a good experience working with Matthew, as he made her feel comfortable and welcomed on the set.
Chandler and Monica ended up marrying in the show and adopting twins. Marta Kauffman, one of the show’s writers, thinks Monica and Chandler are still together and happy with their family. It was indeed a wise decision by Matthew to change the storyline and not ruin the goto comfort character Chandler.
Matthew Perry suddenly died on October 28 at the age of 54. He was found unconscious in a jacuzzi at his home, and he passed away before he was taken to the hospital. The reason for his death is still unknown, and his autopsy reports are said to be unclear. He will always be remembered as the fan’s most loved character, Chandler, and foremost as a good human being who always strived to get better and make the world a better and happier place.
