Malayalam’s critically acclaimed film 2018 Kerala Floods is selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2024.
According to reports, the Malayalam epic survival drama film 2018: Everyone is A Hero about the real Kerala Floods stories is an Indian official entry for this year’s Oscars. The survival drama film is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and produced by Venu Kunnappilly, C. K. Padma Kumar and Anto Joseph. The film stars Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Narain and Lal. The film was made with an estimated budget of Rs 30 crore, collected over 200 crores, and received critical appraisal from critics and audiences nationwide.
Addressing a press conference, filmmaker and chairman of the 16-member selection committee Girish Kasaravalli said that the Malayalam movie had been picked for its theme of the effects of climate change, reported PTI. As many as 22 films, including The Kerala Story, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway, Telugu film Balagam, Marathi films Vaalvi and Baaplyok and Tamil film August 16, 1947, were considered.
No Indian entry has been nominated for best international feature film since Lagaan.2018 will compete for the Best International Feature Film Oscar Best Foreign Film.
