These censor details about Oppenheimer are a must to know!

Oppenheimer, just one day before its release, is breaking the internet with its movie scenes. Christopher Nolan’s biggest movie ever, to have a connection with Inception, is experiencing house full theatres the moment the advance booking began on the 18th. By this time, Christopher Nolan’s fans know enough about the movie. But, how did the movie do at the censor board?

Since Insomnia in 2002, Oppenheimer is the first R-rated movie in 20 years. With R-rated comes the possibility of alterations when the movie is screened at the Censor Board. That’s exactly what happened with Christopher Nolan’s next big-ticket. Fans, upon watching the movie may be disappointed that the most anticipated scenes have been squared down to almost nothing to approve with U/A.

You’ll be surprised to know that these changes were made by the makers instead of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Of course, to avoid controversies after release and face a downfall in the box office collection, the makers played safe.

The studio knew that the CBFC would never allow the scene even if they requested for an ‘A’ rating. As a result, they themselves cut some shots off or reduced the length. They have tried their best to cut it smartly so that it doesn’t hinder the experience of the viewers. The end result is that the sex and nude scenes are there but in a not-so-objectionable manner. “The CBFC only asked to mute the word ‘a*****e’ and to also remove it from the subtitles. Once it was done, the film was awarded a U/A certificate.

Interestingly, the shot where Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh) makes Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) read from the Bhagavad Gita while having s*x has been retained. Usually, such shots are the first to be axed in today’s times as it can hurt sentiments. Surprisingly, the CBFC didn’t ask for it to be axed.

The rumour about its length has turned true as the certificate mentions that the movie is 180 minutes long.
