The time Kamal Haasan slammed the National Awards!

Kamal Haasan publically criticized the National Awards Jury for failing to award Mohanlal Best Actor for his performance in Sadayam in 1992.

The actor has garnered various honors for his performances over the years, including five National honors. However, one incident from 1992 stands out: there was a raging debate about why Mohanlal was not given Best Actor for his performance in the 1992 film Sadayam. The National Awards Jury defended their judgment, claiming that the Drishyam actor had previously won a National Award for the film Bharatham in 1991 and therefore a single actor could not be named.

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan was one of the most renowned names to respond to the incident. He spoke out against the National Awards Jury’s decision, claiming that their justification was inadequate. The actor further stated that the two National Awards he received were useless because Mohanlal did not earn them for his performance in Sadayam. The statement became well-known and a topic of discussion in and of itself.
