It’s common yet upsetting that whenever a movie becomes a hit, it’s only the on-screen actors that get all the fame because those are the faces that reach the audience. But, what we forget it, there are at least a thousand people behind the scenes that made this possible. If it wasn’t for the makeup artist, the cinematographer, the light and sound controller, the costume designer, and even the security guard, the movie would never reach the theatres. Directors are the most underappreciated people in the crew, the ones who do the most for masterpieces that make history. It’s very rare to see a director’s name gain headlines although they deserve it all the time. Sudipto Sen is one name that has shone from the darkness of the hidden heroes in the film industry.
His movie The Kerala Story was such an epic success despite the recurring, ugly controversies against it that even the people who despised it spent their money on movie tickets. Collectively, iT reached Rs 238.47 crores worldwide. Apart from this, he’s also widely remembered for Aasma (2018) and The Last Monk (2006). The holder of 7 awards, Sudipta Sen is an Indian film director who made his debut as a documentary filmmaker in 1997 with the film “The Other Wealth”.
Sudipto is now back with another history-making movie, Saharasri which is a biopic on Subrata Roy. The first look is released today, however, the cast details are not out yet. Subrata Roy is the founder of Sahara India Pariwar who was entangled in a legal battle, the exact particulars of which aren’t available on the internet. Notably, this is not the first time someone is takin up his story. Bad Boy Billionaires: India and The World’s Biggest Family are two projects that already highlight his story.
The film, which will go on floors next year, will be shot extensively across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Kolkata, and London. It will be released in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. While AR Rahman has been roped in to compose the music of the film, Gulzar will pen the lyrics.
