Star Wars Day: May the 4th be with you

Happy 4th of May! It’s the day of the year when fans of the remarkable film franchise come together and celebrate the Sci-fi flick.

Created in 1977, almost 45 years ago, the Star Wars film series shook the entire world. Even after four decades, fans are still enamored by the wonder of the movies. Starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Natalie Portman in lead roles, the Star Wars universe will always remain a favorite.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, the Star Wars film franchise was created by George Lucas beginning with the Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.  The movie quickly became a pop culture phenomenon as it gathered devoted fans from all over the world. With 12 movies, 4 live-action series, and 9 animated series,  this film franchise is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The nine movies in Skywalker Saga have also been nominated for the Academy Awards, with the first two movies getting the wins.

May 4th of every year is celebrated as Star Wars Day as fans pay homage to the series. The phrase, “May the fourth be with you” comes from the dialogue often uttered in the movie series, “May the force be with you.” Fans celebrate this day with movie-watch parties, cosplays, memes, film trivia, and buying merchandise. Many are taking to social media to wish fellow fans of the franchise.
