Sobhita Dhulipala mentioned that the film industry still holds on to an inevitable “colonial hangover” regarding beauty ideals. She also talked about being awestruck by Deepika Padukone’s South Indianness in Om Shanti Om.

Now, she remains authentic instead of trying to conform to specific expectations. She also recalled finding comfort in looking at the “South Indianness of Deepika Padukone’s beauty in Om Shanti Om” as a young girl. Sobhita Dhulipala explained, “I am not even sure what conventional beauty is. What is conventional? What are light eyes? I don’t even know how many Indians have light eyes, but I’m not saying that is the standard, but there is a slightly colonial hangover regarding beauty. As an audience, I could not relate to that. Many of my heroes have looked separate from that. Like a Vyajayantimala, I do not know what category you put her in.
