‘Consent’ is a topic best spoken about by people who sit in their comfort zones. Like it or hate it – women are privileged in this case. If the roles were reversed, or if a fan kissed a female celebrity, the entire club would pounce on him and beat him till his body fell into a pool of blood. But when it’s a man getting kissed without consent, who cares, right?
Living in the 21st century, we still associate consent, respect and all those fancy words to gender. Why are we talking about equality that only goes in the direction of women? Is that equality or is it ‘playing the victim card’? There’s no question that several women have gone through a lot of painful situations which need to be shown to the world, but amidst it, we have conveniently forgotten that men exist, too, and they also go through issues like these.
Shah Rukh Khan – the king of Bollywood, was spotted attending an event on Tuesday in Dubai. Post that, he went off-stage with his bodyguards to meet his fans up-close and personal. A female fan just hopped in and asked, “Can I kiss you?” and the next second, this over-excited fan – probably at a loss of senses – grabbed his face and kissed him on his cheek. How fair was that? Although you see a smile on SRK’s face in the photo, it’s obvious it was uncomfortable, unexpected and unpleasant.
Now comes the hypocrisy in the comments. People are calling her ‘lucky’, ‘Oh so sweet’ and all rosy words. One fan says, “Alag hi aura hai srk sir ka…ekdum bhi gussa nahi hote hai jab bhi koi fan kiss kar leta unhe.” (Sir’s aura is out of this world, he doesn’t even get angry if any fan kisses him.”
If you’re a rational, unbiased human being, you’ll immediately sense everything that is wrong with the comment section and the world in general.
