SC lifts West Bengal’s decision to ban ‘The Kerala Story’

Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story has raised many controversies. The film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles. The story of the film is about a group of women from Kerala who are converted to Islam and join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The film is getting a huge response from the audience and it is creating new records. Even an FIR was filed to stop the film from releasing. Many called that this movie is just propaganda and there is no truth in it.

West Bengal has banned the screening of the film, but then the Supreme Court has paused the ban on the movie. It also asked the makers to ensure that the film carries a disclaimer stating that it is a fictionalized account of events and there is no authenticated data to back up its claim that thousands of women in Kerala were forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS.

Whereas in Tamil Nadu, an association of multiplex owners had also said they would stop screening the film, citing protests and low audiences. The court asked authorities in Tamil Nadu to provide adequate security at theatres for people to see the film safely.
