Samnatha says she initially rejected Shaakuntalam. Here’s why

Samantha Ruth Prabhu kickstarted a promotion spree for her upcoming movie Shaakuntalam with a bang.

In an interview, Samantha opened up about why she initially said no to work in Shaakuntalam. She said, “The offer came to me at a time when I had just completed shooting for The Family Man 2. I had just played Raji, a character so different from Shakuntala in so many ways. Shakuntala is a symbol of purity, innocence, grace and dignity. Raji, on the other hand, was all about being gritty and real. I wasn’t sure if I could transform into Shakuntala at the point,”.

Shaakuntalam is directed by Gunasekhar and is a cinematic adaptation of the play Shakuntala by Kalidasa. The romantic drama, apart from Samantha also features Dev Mohan in a prominent role. The film will release on April 14, in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. It will also be available in 3D. On the other hand, Samantha will also be seen in Siva Nirvana’s Kushi, wherein she will share the screen space with Vijay Devarakonda. The Telugu movie will hit the theatres this year around September.
