Ram Gopal Varma speaks about Oppenheimer’s Bhagvad Gita controversy

Ram Gopal Varma, often referred to by his initials RGV, is an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer, known for his works in Telugu cinema in addition to Hindi, Kannada language films, and television. As a filmmaker, he’s commended Oppenheimer since Sunday in his tweets thread, which the Telugu fans highly consider. But, what’s his say on the Bhagwad Gita controversy in Christopher Nolan’s big-ticket?

On Monday, Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, “Irony is that an American nuclear scientist Oppenheimer read the Bhagwad Geeta which I doubt even 0.0000001 % of Indians read.”

For the unversed, there’s a scene in Oppenheimer where the woman makes the man read Bhagwad Gita while she grinds against him and s*xually involves with him and a s*xual intercourse is happening. The makers themselves cut the scene short, giving the rumoured reason that the movie was ‘too long’, whereas the real reason was, they knew it wouldn’t be approved by the Censor Board. While everyone was bashing Adipurush for misinterpreting Ramayana, Ram Gopal Varma continued his trail of showering the movie with praises implying ‘at least they read it unlike Indians’, about which he’s receiving some backlash.

One says, “I am sure you are one of the non readers.” while another drops, “If you’ve read it before creating Twitter account.. This Twitter handle would have some better tweets than shit anything else.”

There’s a divided war on the internet, some saying Oppen is not directly reading the holy text, just narrating what’s written, whereas others are saying it doesn’t matter and that it’s just a movie. Some on the flipside are seen appreciating the beauty of that scene, using ‘Kama Sutra’ as an example to support the s*x scene that’s shown is completely acceptable and natural.
