Actress Priyanka Chopra reflected on her teenage years spent in the United States and claimed that she had changed so much that even her father found it difficult to comprehend her when she eventually returned to India. When Priyanka returned to India at the age of 16, she believed she was older than her contemporaries because she had been sent to the US when she was 12 or 13 years old.
Priyanka was questioned about her experience in the US as a teenager while she was a guest on the She Pivots podcast, which is hosted by Emily Tisch Sussman. She said, “I was living with my aunt and uncle, who were incredibly strict and traditional, since obviously, I was somebody else’s teenager, and I wasn’t a very easy kid. Coming to the US when I was 13 absolutely defined me in a huge way. I didn’t make things simple for them.
When asked if returning to India with her parents was a shock, Priyanka responded, “Yeah! Because I spent my teenage years in Boston and New York with my aunt and uncle, my experience was incredibly unusual. My parents were overjoyed to see me again when I abruptly returned to a small Indian town as a 12-year-old with a flat chest. However, by the time I arrived home as a voluptuous 16-year-old with all of my American hormones in tow. My dad felt threatened by me. I don’t know what to do with this girl-child-woman that I have at home, he simply said. He struggled greatly with that.
By this point, according to Priyanka, she “liked attention” and “loved boys.” Compared to the other 16-year-olds in Bareilly, she observed, “Suddenly, I felt very grown-up.” Priyanka described how her father put bars on her windows when he observed a boy in the balcony of her room during a recent visit on The Howard Stern Show. Additionally, he forbade her from donning western attire. “I used a driver to take me everywhere; he was terrified. I understand, but then I had my career. She said, “I feel so horrible for my dad.
