Akshay Kumar’s recent release Samrat Prithviraj was unable to reach the hype. Trade sources say this movie joins Akki’s bombed movies list. This periodical movie failed to reach the expected mark in the first weekend. The films released along with Prithviraj are Vikram and Major. Both these movies are still running successfully in the theatres, while Akshay’s movie was removed from a lot of theatres already.
Prithviraj has collected just Rs 52.25 Crores in its first days. With the vast market Bollywood has and the hype Akshay’s movie has, this is considered to be very much below par. While Chandra Prakash Dwivedi was at the helm, Aditya Chopra produced the film on the Yash Raj Films banner on a huge budget.
After the Prithviraj debacle, it’s safe to say that except for Bhul Bhulaiyaa-2 and The Kashmir Files, this year’s Bollywood releases till now were all duds. 83, Gangubhai, Attack, Bachan Pandey, Jersey, Runway 34, Hero Panti 2, and Dhaakad were all bombed at the box office. Meanwhile, South movies like RRR, Pushpa, KGF 2, Major and Vikram have all scored blockbusters.
