Kerala HC to restrict movie reviews within 48 hours of theatrical release! Read on for more specifics

Kerala HC issues new guidelines for movie reviews

It is reported that the Kerala High Court is currently debating the appropriate amount of time to wait before issuing a film review.

Amid the ongoing argument over whether unfavorable reviews uploaded on social media have a harmful effect on a film’s collections, the Kerala High Court’s amicus curiae has suggested that films not be evaluated within the first 48 hours of release.

The report filed by amicus curiae Shyam Padman includes strong standards for preventing “review bombing” and allowing viewers to establish their own opinions without being influenced by biased evaluations.

According to reports, many people write reviews on social media for a payoff, and those who refuse to pay receive negative feedback. There is now a limitation to sue on this because it does not fall within the category of extortion, blackmail, etc.

It also advised reviewers to provide constructive criticism while avoiding insulting language, personal assaults, or disparaging remarks about performers, filmmakers, and others. Instead of ripping down the film, constructive critique should be offered.
