Kamal Haasan: The Real Ulaganayagan of Indian Cinema

Kamal Haasan turns a year older today. The actor’s contribution to the entertainment industry has been enormous and he continues to give the best performances with a career spanning several decades. He is an actor, filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, television presenter, and social activist.

Kamal Haasan can be a representative of an avid movie lover who breathes and bleeds Cinema has brought out many firsts in Indian Cinema. As Technician he’s far ahead of many here and has been instrumental in bringing several cutting-edge technologies from around the world.

One of the important techniques Kamal Haasan introduced in Indian Cinema is ventriloquism on screen. He is the first actor to perform it in Avargal. He is also the first South star to shatter silver jubilee records in Bollywood with his Ek Duuje Ke Liye.

In 1985, it’s Kamal’s Japanil Kalyanaraman had a sequel with a continuation of its 1979 prequel Kalyanaraman. Vikram, one of the actor’s classics is also the first Indian cinema to have recorded its songs on a computer which was produced by Kamal Haasan.

In 1987, he bought the first sugar glass for stunt sequences without stunt artists getting injured for his film Nayakan also Pesum Padam is India’s only silent movie in the sound era. In 1989, Apoorva Sagodharargal to have performed as a Dwarf throughout the film.

In 1990, Michael Madana Kamarajan was the first film to have a hydraulic set erected to shoot the hanging cliff climax sequence and Thevar Magan was the first Indian film to have used Movie Magic Software for screenplay writing in 1992.

In 1994, Mahanadhi was the first Indian film to have been digitally edited with AVID while Kuruthipunal, 1995 is the first Indian film to have used Dolby Stereo Surround SR sound technology.

Indian which is also gearing up for its sequel release is the first Indian film to have used prosthetic make-up and Hey Ram, 2000 is the first film to have used live sound without dubbing. Anbe Sivam is the film where he was the first Indian actor to perform as a vision-corrected eyeglasses person.

Alavandhan is the first film to use the Motion Freeze Technique in Camera and Air Ramp technology for stunt sequenced. It is also one of the world’s first films to use a 2D animated stunt sequence in real-time movies.

Mumbai Xpress is the first Indian film to have shot on a digital camera in 2005 and his Dasavatharam made him the first actor to act in 10 different roles in a single film and also the first film to talk about Ebola Virus. Alaipayuthey is the film in which he had a reverse movement song with reverse lip sync.

Kamal Haasan also recently announced his collaboration with acclaimed director Maniratnam. This legendary pair will be seen after 36 years coming with KH234 tentatively titled Thug Life. The poster and teaser of the actor is unveiled on his day. All his fans are very much excited about this duo’s output.
