Johnny Depp’s ”Jeanne Du Barry” to be screened at Cannes

”Jeanne Du Barry” is an upcoming French biographical historical drama film written and directed by and produced by critically acclaimed Maiwenn. Her previous film, the social drama ”Polisse” won the JURY PRIZE at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Its plots centre on Madam Du, who uses her intelligence and allure to climb the social ladder. She becomes KING LOUIS XV’S favourite, they fall in love, and against all property and etiquette, du Barry moves to Versailles, where her arrival scandalizes the court. The extended cast includes Johnny Depp playing King Louis XV, Lois Garrel, Pierre Richard, Benjamin Lavarehe, Pascal Greorggy, Melvil Pupaud, India Hair and Noemie Lvovsky.

Jeanne Du Barry will be premiered as the opening film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on 16 May 2023, before being theoretically released in France on the same day. Johnny Depp is co-producing the film with the director Maiwenn. Netflix handles the distribution in France.
