No prizes for guessing that John Cena made it to the top spot on the trends list on March 11, soon after he appeared almost naked to present the Oscar for Best Costume Design at the 96th Academy Awards. John Cena seemed naked on the Oscars stage while presenting the award for best costume design to “Poor Things.”
The wrestler-turned-actor was called onto the stage for a segment in which Cena was meant to appear nude, about the 1974 Oscars when a male streaker disrupted the event. Kimmel said the bit was “supposed to be funny,” to which Cena hilariously responded, “The male body is not a joke!”
Cena did end up coming onstage with nothing but a large envelope covering his private parts. The audience roared with laughter. Since he couldn’t move the envelope to open it, there was a quick cut, and he re-appeared wearing a curtain-like golden toga.
While talking about how essential costumes can be in conversation with Jimmy Kimmel on stage, “Costumes are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is,” Cena told the crowd, adding: “I can’t open the envelope,” said Cena.
The meme fest that the ‘John Cena moment’ has triggered, thus, documents several emotions ranging from shock and surprise to pure laughs. John Cena’s avatar soon was a hit on the Internet, with different reactions from the netizens. Most of them found it healthily funny as the wrestler took it out quickly on stage.
‘Poor Things’ won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the Oscars 2024 was held on March 11 (IST) in Los Angeles. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ won 7 Oscars, including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Actor.
Cena currently stars in Peter Farrelly’s comedy “Ricky Stanicky” opposite Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler and Andrew Santino. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
