Jawan Effect : Vijay Sethupathi reveals he is done playing antagonist!

Vijay Sethupathi revealed why he chose negative roles in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla. He also explained why he was taking a break from playing villainous characters.

Vijay Sethupathi made his Hindi debut earlier this year with Mumbaikar and then co-starred with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan. In both of these films, he played the antagonist to perfection. However, the actor has decided to take a break from playing negative characters.

Super Deluxe actor said “I thought playing a villain gives you so much freedom,” the Jawan actor explained. You kill people, torture them, and have fun doing it, which you can’t do in real life. There’s a big criminal inside everyone, and we can control them, which is what I want to try. Similarly, why should the villain always have an angry expression? Why does the villain lack comedy in his life? Why doesn’t the villain have fun in his life? So I want to have all of those things as well as perspective.” This is why he began playing negative characters.

Vijay was then inundated with roles of a similar nature. The Merry Christmas actor explained why the most beloved villain no longer wants to do it, saying, “They started approaching me for regular kind of villain things.” I already don’t have time to listen to stories in which I play a hero; now I have to sit and listen to stories in which I play a villain, which creates an emotional block because I meet everyone.”

“But gradually, I couldn’t handle it; I got a little confused,” he added. So I decided not to do it for a while; I needed to relax; otherwise, there would be too many approaches for pan-Indian films. As a result, I decided to take a break and unwind. We’ll decide later whether something I said was appropriate.
