The dynamic craftsman and novelistic director Vetrimaran is celebrating his birthday today. Vetrimaaran is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter. Who primarily works in Tamil cinema. As of 2021, he has won five National Film Awards, eight Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards and two Filmfare South Awards.
1. Visaranni is a crime thriller film that perfectly depicts the lives of Tamil labourers. Vetrimaaran debuted with the crime drama Visarani and won the Amnesty International Italia Award at the 72nd Venice Film Festival. He also won three national awards. The film perfectly depicts many issues regarding the Tamil Nadu police force and received highly positive reviews from critics for its fine filmmaking.
2. Asuran authentically depicts rural village life and its complicated issues. It was his first film to feature in the 100-crore club and received critical acclaim, winning multiple national awards. It is one of the ten films screened at the Golden Globes. The film emerged as a critical and commercial success, and Danush won the national award for Best Actor for his stellar performance in the movie.
3. Viduthalai: Part 1 is the period crime thriller film, that was released worldwide theatrically on 31 March 2023. The film emerged as a critical and commercial success, receiving praise for its characterisation, cast performances, plot, technical aspects, background music and cinematography. The sequel, Viduthalai Part 2, is scheduled for release at the end of 2023.
4. Vada Chennai is a gangster film from the planned trilogy and perfectly depicts the life of gang wars between two rivals. A prequel of the film is on the floors, and a web series based on the film is in production. The film received critical acclaim from critics praising its plot, action sequences, technical aspects and cast performances.
The director launched his own production company, Grass Root Film Company, and produced Poriyaalan, Kaaka Muttai and Udhyam NH 4. Kaaka Muttai won the Best Children’s Film award at the 62nd National Film Award. Currently, the director is shooting for Viduthalai Part 2.
