The artist of EDAM Entertainment, IU (001, real name LEE Ji-Eun; hereinafter, the “Artist”) as we have been informed by our legal counsel, SHINWON LLP.
On the 2nd of this month, we discovered a resurfaced ‘spy leaflet in an online community and quickly recognized the accused’s lack of regret of one’s wrongdoing and the gravity of the issue. Accordingly, we are hereby keeping you updated on the case’s development and providing the status of the criminal complaint, which many may want to know about. Please kindly understand that details such as specific case numbers and particular aliases in the following are not disclosed to cooperate in protecting the investigation’s confidentiality.
1) Case on the Leaflet Accusing the Artist being Spy
On May 4th, we filed a defamation by a statement of false facts complaint
with the Songpa Police Station in Seoul against the person who circulated evident incorrect information online and offline, such as saying that the Artist is a spy. Following that, on May 18th, through the complaint’s supplementary statement investigations, a number of important leads were provided to identify the accused, and this enabled the police officials to swiftly identify the accused. But our understanding is that the investigator in charge is experiencing difficulty because the accused has refused to proceed with the investigation until today, approximately three months after filing the complaint and submitting the case. In response, our legal counsel is seeking a prompt investigation by submitting briefs in addition to providing more evidence of crime.
2)Complaint Against the Artist
Next, on March 20th, we filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, suing 58 accused who were finally selected for defamation by a statement of false facts. Following that, the complainant’s supplementary statement investigation was conducted twice, on April 21st and June 26th; on July 31st, we acquired such materials showing that among the accused persons in this case, there was an accused who was presumed to be the same as the person who has been consistently posting slanderous posts about the Artist recently, so we submitted an additional brief concerning the accused. Because the complaint in this case also aimed at a number of accused persons, we confirmed that the current case would be summarized and that a warrant was to be requested to secure the accused’s personal information.
3) Complaint Filed against the Distributor of False Rumor on Plagiarism
Next, on March 20th, we filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, suing 58 accused who were finally selected for defamation by a statement of false facts. 4) Case concerning Malicious Comments
On March 3rd this year, we filed a complaint with the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul, accusing 61 people of insulting the Artist online by posting insulting comments online and producing, posting and distributing pornography against the Artist. We have confirmed that a warrant request is ongoing to secure the accused persons’ personal information. Following that, on March 6th too, we filed a complaint with the Bangbae Police Station, Seoul, at the Artist on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases against 60 persons who wrote and posted obscene posts aimed Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Obscene Acts by Using Means of Communication), and an investigation was conducted to supplement the complainant’s statements, In this case as well, our understanding is that the procedure of securing the accused persons’ personal information is presently underway.
