Dunki and Salaar
Speculations are rife that a box office battle of epic proportions may unfold on Christmas weekend, with Prabhas’ “Salaar” pitted against Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki.” This development has left the film fraternity divided over the potential clash, although an official announcement is still awaited. According to trade insiders, “Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire,” directed by the renowned KGF filmmaker Prashanth Neel, is scheduled for release on December 22, a slot that was initially reserved for Rajkumar Hirani’s “Dunki.”
Considering Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in 2023 so far, many believe that “Dunki” has the potential to overshadow the buzz surrounding “Salaar.” Trade expert Atul Mohan states, “Shah Rukh Khan will be the first preference of exhibitors, especially because Prabhas has had a series of flops with ‘Radhe Shyam’ and ‘Adipurush.’ No exhibitor is likely to choose ‘Salaar’ over ‘Dunki.’ Shah Rukh Khan has also garnered a new fan base in the South after ‘Jawan,’ which will work in favor of ‘Dunki.’ Additionally, SRK was the first to announce the release date, and it wouldn’t be fair to expect him to reschedule.” While Shah Rukh Khan enjoys a streak of successes, Prabhas is eagerly awaiting a comeback after the disappointment of “Adipurush.”
