A complaint has been filed against Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his family members at the Ghatkopar police station in Mumbai for allegedly infringing on religious sentiments with a Christmas celebration video.
Sanjay Tiwari, the complainant, claimed in his complaint that the video shows the actor pouring liquor on a cake and setting it on fire while saying “Jai Mata Di.” Tiwari claims that in Hinduism, the fire god is traditionally invoked before other deities and that Kapoor and his family purposefully used intoxicants in their celebration of one religious festival while also celebrating another. He claimed that the act of setting fire to the cake, followed by the chant ‘Jai Mata Di’ offended his religious sensibilities. In this case, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed.
In a video shared on Instagram by the official account of entertainment magazine Filmfare, a man pours liquor over a cake as Ranbir, sitting beside Alia Bhatt, lights it and says ‘Jai Mata Di’. The video was taken at the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch, according to Filmfare. The caption of the Instagram post reads, “Ranbir Kapoor brings everyone to laughter with his ‘Jai Mata Di’ cheer while lighting up the cake during the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch!”
