Bhumi Pednekar on sexual harassment
Bhumi Pednekar is a famous Bollywood actress who has gained the audience’s love and appreciation for her fantastic acting skills and unique story selection. The actress is also a fashion icon to whom the youth look up. The actress is not only involved in movies but is also known for her bold attitude and courage to raise her voice on social issues. Recently, Bhumi Pednekar opened up about the sexual harassment she faced at the age of 14.
The Thank You for Coming actress, in an interview, shared a traumatic incident of her life that still haunts her. Bhumi said, “I remember this very, very clearly. In Bandra, fairs used to happen back then. I was a teenager, probably 14, and was with my family. I knew what was happening… it’s not like I was unaware. I was walking, and somebody kept pinching my a*s.” She added, “Though I looked back, I couldn’t understand who did it because it was very crowded. Somebody tried touching me inappropriately again and again, and I was getting paranoid. Though I was with my family, there also was a whole bunch of kids from my building as well. But I didn’t say anything at that time because I was thrown off by what had happened.”
Bhumi Pednekar also stated that she still remembers that touch and how she felt then “I remember the poking and the pinching. It’s like your body remembers… these are traumas that you can’t get over,” she says. It is bold of her to share such sensitive information with the world to raise awareness of the importance of voicing out the wrong and such sexual harassment incidents.
