Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma’s epic masterpiece of a movie Sui Dhaaga released 5 years ago, today, and surely, it’s a date worth celebrating. Many of you may not remember what the movie is about, but you’ll instantly remember this template with Anushka Sharma’s face in it that had become a viral meme back in the days.
Recollect something? Sui Dhaaga is about Mauji, who, along with his wife, Mamta, decides to start his own garment business. To make a name for himself, he enlists the help of various artisans and participates in a renowned fashion competition.
The director of Sui Dhaaga, Sharat Katariya, explained once how he made the small-town scenes so realistic. “We spent a lot of time in Chanderi before the shoot because we didn’t want to create any sets. Usually you go to a location and find the best spot to shoot, but we actually found a house where the characters would live and shot it even though it looked uncinematic. Then we borrowed things from other people’s houses and used it, even the bedsheets. So that’s what makes it look authentic.”
Featuring Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma and other supporting characters, the movie earned a whopping 125 crores at the box office in its total lifetime. The roles played by Dhawan and Sharma were completely out of the ordinary and they surely nailed each minute of it.
In the present, Varun Dhawan’s upcoming movie is with the action-master Kollywood director Atlee Kumar who recently made his way into Bollywood with SRK’s Jawan. Coming to Anushka Sharma, her next work will be on OTT with the movie Chakda Xpress.
