Amitabh Bachchan created history in 1978 with the film ‘Don’ directed by Chandra Barot. The movie also starred Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekhar, Om Shivpuri, and Satyen Kappu in supporting roles. The movie led to the start of the Don franchise. In 2006, Farhan Akhtar remade the same film with the title Don: The Chase Begins Again, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, and the movie was a bigger hit than the original film.
Farhan Akhtar directed the sequel to Don: The Chase Begins Again with the same cast, titled Don 2: The King Is Back. The movie was released in 2011 and set a massive benchmark for all the directors. The film was the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2011.
While the fans eagerly awaited the third installment of Don in 2023, Farhan Akhtar officially announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh replacing Shah Rukh Khan, which disappointed many SRK fans. However, recently, it was reported that director Farhan Akthar approached another star hero before Ranveer Singh.
According to the reports, after Shah Rukh Khan rejected the script as he was unconvinced, the makers then approached Ranveer singh for Don 3. It is reported that he also rejected the film, and that’s how Ranveer Singh was finalised to play a role in Don 3, the franchise’s third instalment.
