I have lost alot due to Chamkila, says Parineeti on gaining weight

Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra has always been known for her versatility and commitment to her craft. However, her recent role in Imtiaz Ali’s film, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” pushed her boundaries like never before. The film, which centers around the life of the legendary Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, required Parineeti to undergo a remarkable transformation that came with sacrifices and challenges. A recent conversation by Parineeti on gaining weight is trending.

Parineeti on gaining weight:

Parineeti stepped into the shoes of Amarjot Kaur, Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife and singing partner. To authentically portray this character, she gained a staggering 16 kilograms. The decision to put on weight was met with scepticism from her colleagues in the film industry. They warned her that it could jeopardise her career. Yet, Parineeti followed her instincts and committed to the role.

“I remember telling some of my co-stars that I am about to do this film and I am putting on weight,” Parineeti shared. “So many of them said, ‘Have you gone mad? Have you lost it? You will end your career. Don’t do this film.’ But my gut said, ‘No, I am going to do this.’”

The journey wasn’t easy. Parineeti spent over two years shooting for “Chamkila,” during which she lost out on other work opportunities. She looked drastically different, and rumors swirled—some speculated she was pregnant, while others accused her of undergoing cosmetic procedures. Red carpet appearances were rare during this period.

“I have not been seen around because I am looking like this,” Parineeti candidly admitted. “I have still not lost weight, and I am still not looking like myself. But I don’t care.”

Parineeti on Living as Amarjot for two years:

Her commitment to the role extended beyond physical appearance. Parineeti married politician Raghav Chadha while the film was still in production. Her wedding photos serve as a reminder of her dedication to “Amar Singh Chamkila.”

Starring alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who played the titular role, Parineeti’s performance has garnered praise. The film, available on Netflix, has resonated with audiences. Parineeti’s willingness to transform herself for the character echoes the spirit of actors who immerse themselves fully into their roles.

In an industry where appearances often dictate success, Parineeti’s journey stands as a testament to artistic integrity. She joins the league of actors like Vidya Balan, who fearlessly embrace unconventional roles and redefine beauty standards.

As we watch “Amar Singh Chamkila,” we witness Parineeti’s metamorphosis—a reminder that sometimes, losing oneself is essential to finding the heart of a character. Her commitment to storytelling transcends mere aesthetics, leaving an indelible mark on the silver screen.

“I have still not lost weight,” Parineeti declares, “but I don’t care.” And perhaps, that unwavering spirit is what truly defines a remarkable artist.
