Bollywood film industry is a global phenomenon for its glitz and glamour. It is a bitter truth and an open secret that Bollywood actresses must be good-looking in film-makers‘ eyes even to do non-glamorous roles. It is the industry where glamour and beauty are often emphasized.
Sadly, with the rise of commercial cinema, women were shown to be damsels in distress. With the audience’s view of changing the cinema and craft, maybe the makers are trying to show what the public prefers, but it is also the bitter truth every glittering the makers do is to cash out and behind the woods. If the actress is not an A-list star or a famous star kid, she must do what she was told.
With fewer opportunities for women-centric films, glamour became the selling point for the actresses to achieve stardom or survive in the industry. If it had to be really questioned, one could ask how many actresses were allowed to show their artistic side irrespective of how they are trying to stand themselves inside the industry?
Does the public think the Film Industry is really changing, giving priority to the craft over the glamour? When a senior actor can do an action entertainer, why can’t a young actress doing a female-centric movie might become the end of her career when the audience is open to accepting what may make the cinema raw and rustic with talented actors and actresses but not the glitz and glam. Why should one raise this concern every year?
