Mrunal Thakur’s golden lehenga appearance on the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla runway was covered in February 2023. Its appeal lay in the combination of elaborate surface work and a clear, full-skirted shape. This illustrated retrospective separates the silhouette, embellishment and jewellery to show how they work together.
One colour, several textures
The matching blouse and skirt kept the palette consistent, while embroidery and mirror embellishments supplied variation across the fabric. The blouse sat off the shoulders with short sleeves, leaving a clear neckline above the detailed bodice. Below it, the fuller skirt created a broad surface for the decorative pattern.

Why the skirt deserves a closer look
A metallic outfit can appear almost flat in a distant view. Seen closer, small reflective elements and stitched motifs catch light differently. Our fashion interpretation uses that distinction to show the rhythm of the embroidery around the waist and down the skirt, rather than treating gold as a single continuous shine.

Jewellery that matches the scale
Contemporary reports noted a substantial choker, maang tikka and bracelet. These accessories suit the visual weight of the lehenga, with the choker framing the open neckline. When adapting the idea, compare the size of a necklace with the blouse’s embroidery: both should remain readable instead of merging into an indistinct band of sparkle.
