Love Beyond Boundaries: Life Lessons from '2 States'

“2 States” is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film based on Chetan Bhagat’s 2009 novel, “2 States: The Story of My Marriage.”

Set against the backdrop of two distinct Indian states, it explores how two young students struggle to convince their clashing families to accept their relationship

Avoid Assumptions The film teaches us that making assumptions can be dangerous.

When Kavita (played by Amrita Singh) meets Ananya’s parents for the first time, she assumes they are cunning and not talented

The lesson here is that we should question our presumptions and seek a basis for our beliefs.

Focus on People, Not Communities The difference lies not between communities but between individuals.

Krish (played by Arjun Kapoor) emphasises this point when he questions his mother about her concerns regarding Ananya’s community.

The lesson: Rather than focusing on cultural differences, we should strive to become better individuals and contribute positively to our communities.

Unconditional Parental Love Despite rough relationships, parents always think well of their children.

Mr. Malhotra (Krish’s father) didn’t get along with anyone in the family, yet he went to great lengths to reconcile the families for his son’s happiness.

The lesson: Parents may not always be there when we want them, but they will be there when we need them.

Follow Your Heart Krish, an IIT and IIM graduate, secretly aspired to be a writer.

The lesson: We should follow our passions and not compromise on them. Passion fades if not nurtured in the right environment.

Dedicated and True Love The film beautifully portrays the love between Krish and Ananya. Their dedication and commitment to each other demonstrate that love should be genuine and unwavering.
