Kim Jin Won’s A Time Called You stars Ahn Hyo Seop, Jeon Yeo Been, and Kang Hoon is written by Choi Hyo Bi. The 12-episode series is a remake of The Taiwanese drama Someday Or One Day directed by Huang Tienjen.
Jeon Yeo-Been and Ahn Hyo Seop play dual roles in the drama. Jeon Yeo-Been as Choi Min-Ju and Han Jun-Hee and Ahn Hyo Seop as Nam-Si Yeon and Koo Yeon Jun. While Kang Hoon plays the character of Jung In-Gyu.
The drama encompasses dark themes, suicide, gore, coping with trauma and experiences, romance, LGBTQ, and past and present instances. The sci-fi-romance drama sketches the story of Han Jun Hee(Jeon -Yeo Been) and Nam Si-Yeon’s (Ahn Hyo-Seop) past and present, when collided, what changes they make and if they managed to survive or not.
The drama starts with the entry of Han Jun Hee, who looks fine on the outside but resents why she is doing fine after the death of her long-term boyfriend Koo Yeon Jun. It’s when a tape recorder gets handed over to her that the story marks its presence in years 2023, 1983, and 2003; taking the viewers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions.
The characters are very well-written and the characters played by the actors added life to them. There is no doubt in calling it a new-age classic. As the first two episodes attempt to establish the storyline, it might not fascinate the audience to continue watching the drama. The drama gets intriguing from the 3rd episode onwards. A Time Called You focuses on sketching the story of 3 friends Nam Si-Yeon, Han Jun Hee, and Jung In Gyu, which lacks emphasis on other characters and their character development. The costumes, make-up, and hair were on point for all the characters. Choi Min-Ju’s bangs added on to the advantage of portraying an introverted and underconfident lady who was struggling.
Many time-travel dramas come and go but what makes the drama worth watching is the portrayal and the artists. No matter how much Choi Min-Ju struggles she still has 2 best friends who choose to be by her side till the end but that is not the case with the initial best friends Nam-Si-Yeon and Jung-In Gyu. They are completely complex characters, While Si-Yeon chooses to deal with his problems himself without voicing them out, In-Gyu has a lot on his platter but chooses to prioritize his friends over himself, which leads to severe consequences.
Ahn Hyo Seop continues his best performance yet again. (Spoiler Alert) As Kang Hoon does magic with his deep eyes, he drives himself to end his life in one of the episodes can break the viewers at once due to his character In-Gyu’s suffering. Kang’s performance will take the viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions, it’s his empathy that will leave a long-lasting effect on the audience. Jeon Yeo-Been’s shades make the drama entertaining and hilarious as she tries to win others to believe she is not Choi Min-Ju, her friends and family don’t believe her initially.
Rowoon’s cameo marks the portrayal of Koo Yeon Jun’s love life. It’s when he questions his identity, the Boy Love theme is well-portrayed. The drama lived up to the hype the network has created and is certainly an Irresistible Romance. The drama is not just a love story but also a lesson to many out there who have forgotten to romanticize little things in life.
